Paris 2016 – What We Did When We Weren’t Running!

While our trip to Paris was ostensibly a “racecation”, I thought I would share a little bit of what we got up to when we weren’t actually running!

  • We saw some sights
When in Paris for the marathon, our sightseeing tends to be from ground (or river) level and fairly sedate so as not to tire our legs out before the race (and because they’re tired out afterwards!). Still, there’s plenty to be seen just from a short walk – this was on the way to our hotel:

And this rather unusual sight was on a wall close to the Eiffel Tower. Kind of random!

  • We shopped
There were a couple of shops I specifically wanted to visit, so we headed off to the Carrousel du Louvre as all our needs could be met there – shopping, coffee and lunch! Of course this being Paris, even a shopping mall is a sight to see, and with this one being below The Louvre, there’s the famous inverted pyramid:

    My next suitcase?

  • We checked out the marathon start
The Champs Elysées all decked out in marathon colours is a sight to behold!
  • We had the best coffee ever!
After our lunch in the food court at the Carrousel du Louve, I spotted an advert for a rather yummy sounding coffee which we just had to have –  a Nutellino. It was a shot of espresso with a spoonful of Nutella in it. It even came with another spoonful of Nutella on the top. A-MA-ZING!

  • We ate!
    Delicious continental breakfasts:

A pre-marathon meal of onion soup and pasta:

A post-marathon burger:

And we even squeezed in one last bowl of onion soup on our way back to the

  • We bought a souvenir supplement
It’s not every day you can find your name printed among 41,708 others!

  • We posed in our finisher T-shirts
Because it’s a law that if you run a marathon, you must take many pictures in your finisher T-shirt and/or wearing your medal, otherwise it didn’t happen!

  • And I tried to be arty
Saw this photo on the official Paris marathon social media:

Nailed it! 😉

Maybe next time we should just go up the Eiffel Tower or something!

Have you ever been to Paris?
What are your favourite things to do during the non-running parts of a “racecation”?
